Purpose

The SNOR device and application are designed to eliminate snoring. SNOR is a simulator for training the muscles of the soft palate and tongue to restore their volume and tone.

2. SNOR Package Contents.

Figure 2 shows all parts of the SNOR device removed from the box:

SNOR electronic device

EMG sensor for tongue muscle training

Two "AAA" batteries

Phone stand

Set of tubes (44 pcs.) for soft palate muscle training

Packaging bag

3. How the Device and App Work (Brief Sequence of Actions)

Muscle training is divided into two stages. First, the soft palate muscles are trained, followed by the tongue muscles.

3.1. This is performed using a sucking effort where the target muscles are tensed with maximum force. A plastic tube is inserted into the device (Fig. 1A), and the other end is placed in the mouth (Fig. 1B). Your task is to perform a sucking action, similar to drinking a cocktail through a straw. By performing this action repeatedly and with sufficient force, you train the soft palate muscles. A sensor built into the SNOR device measures the strength of your muscle tension and displays it on your phone screen.

3.2. Tongue muscle training is carried out by repeatedly pressing the tongue strongly upward against the hard palate. The tension force of the tongue muscles is monitored by an EMG sensor pressed against the skin in the sublingual area (Fig. 2).

4. The weakness of the soft palate muscles causes them to vibrate and physically produce the snoring sound during sleep.

When the soft palate muscles are strong and toned, the vibration goes away and snoring disappears. Our “SNOR” device is an “electronic fitness coach” which targets the soft palate muscles and makes them stronger and tighter.

What is a "snor" device?

SNOR is the electronic training device for the muscles located deep inside your mouth cavity. SNOR makes those muscles strong and tight and snoring disappears for many months. SNOR is a smart trainer. It connects to your smartphone and leverages its processing and multimedia power to maximize the effectiveness of the training.

Our team has developed a new approach to eliminating the symptoms of snoring. We have developed the SNOR Device to train a specific muscle group inside your mouth cavity to successfully achieve our goal. This is the only non-invasive method on the market that naturally removes snoring for prolonged periods (from months to over a year).

SNOR is a smart, advanced training device and will make your soft palate muscles strong and tight. After the training course the muscles will stop creating the snoring sounds when you sleep (see the "why do I snore?" section), SNOR connects to your Apple or Android smartphone or tablet. The device features easy-to-use, intuitive software, which is simple and entertaining to use.

Why do i snore?

The soft palate muscles are located deep inside your mouth cavity. During sleep, your soft palate vibrates under the stream of air created by your breathing. The vibration of the soft palate physically creates the snoring sound.

The snoring sound is physically created by the vibration of the soft palate muscles. Soft palate muscles are thin and flat with one of the edges freely hanging inside your mouth cavity. The function of this muscle group is to separate the nasal passages from your mouth cavity when you swallow. They prevent food from getting into your nose (image 1) and they take part in forming the timbre of your voice.

When the soft palate muscles are weak, they relax during sleep and sag more than they should. As you breathe, the air that passes in and out of your mouth makes them vibrate, similar to how a flag ripples in the wind, emitting the sound that we know as "snoring”.

In order to defeat snoring, you must strengthen the soft palate muscles.

Why do i need snor device?

Without the SNOR device you will not be able to flex the correct muscles in order to train them.

Any effective muscle training involves the usage of specific training gear such as weight machines, cardio machines etc. When used, that specific gear applies appropriate load on your muscles and allows you to control the load levels. However, there is no such gear designed for training the soft palate muscles.

This is why we have developed SNOR, an electronic device that registers the tension of the soft palate muscles with a specially-designed sensor. SNOR is also able to set individual goals based on the actual abilities of a user.

Snor displays how strongly the muscles of your soft palate muscles activate on the screen of your smartphone (blue graphic).

SNOR adjusts the sensitivity of its pressure sensor based on your ability. That makes the exercises easier or harder to perform.

The red threshold line defines how hard you should be working and tensing your soft palate muscle. The higher the threshold, the more effort is required from you

How does snor device function?

When you engage the soft palate muscles, SNOR shows the success of your efforts on your smartphone screen. SNOR automatically dials in the difficulty of the exercise, creates the appropriate training course, and makes the training interesting by using multimedia feedback.

Research has shown (US Patent 8460159) that the only way to engage the soft palate muscles intensively is to perform a sucking effort through a tube.

There is a tube attached to the device which a user places into their mouth. In order to perform the exercise correctly a user must suck in the air through the tube with force by flexing their soft palate muscles. The SNOR Device measures the strength of the suction effort with a built- in pressure sensor, analyses the information, and displays how well your soft palate muscles are working on the screen of your smartphone. The software sets various challenges, offers different types of exercises, and motivates you with various media to keep you entertained.

The device sets a certain training program and displays a graph on your smartphone screen in real time. The graph acts as a reference for how well you are performing the exercise. This is called "biofeedback".

Apart from demonstrating the graph of your soft palate muscle activity, SNOR uses a number of multimedia stimuli of your choice (movies, videos, images) to reward you for your good effort. This makes using our device simple and pleasurable. SNOR also saves all of your progress in easy-to-read charts and tables format, which you can review at any time.

Within two weeks you or your partner will notice that you are snoring a lot less. By the end of the training course, the snoring will have completely disappeared. The standard length of the course is 20 sessions. Each session takes 8-12 minutes.

Soft palate muscles activate intensively when you perform a sucking effort through a tube. For this purpose SNOR features a tube, that connects to the device.

Why is snor better than the alternatives?

There are some alternatives to our device. Some are effective most simply act as a "band-aid" and do not solve the actual cause of snoring. Learn about them here.

The only comparable method to SNOR in its effectiveness is surgery (UPPP or Pillar Procedure). Surgery is an invasive method; therefore, pain, possible infection, and a recovery period are common factors. The other problems associated with the surgical approach are the change in the timbre of your voice, food making its way into your nasal cavity, and the inability to repeat the procedure when snoring returns. There are no such problems associated with our device.

CPAP is another method that works. CPAP is designed to relieve the symptoms of sleep apnea and although it is somewhat of an overkill for simple snoring, it works very well. The method requires using a mask during sleep. The mask is connected to a machine, which pumps air into your throat, creating constant air pressure inside your mouth cavity and preventing your airway from collapsing when you breathe in. The snoring comes back if you stop using this machine; therefore, you will be tied to this device for the rest of your life.

Electronic stimulators are wristbands or phone apps which will bring you out of deep sleep when they detect the snoring sound. Out of any anti-snoring devices and methods, we like this one the least. This method can destroy your sleeping patterns, circadian rhythms and it can lead to Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. This method can negatively affect your life and well-being.

Mechanical jaw stabilizers are a very popular approach. These oral appliances can stop or reduce snoring by moving the lower jaw forward. This maneuver opens the back of the throat up, which reduces and can stop snoring. The problem here is this. The mouthpiece, which may fulfill the intended purpose, has to be designed specifically for you by a dentist. For a proper designed piece you would be looking in the neighborhood of $1800. The endless variation of mouthpieces sold online all have a low effectiveness rate.

General FAQ about the method which answers some question regarding how the technology functions.

Frequently asked questions

Snoretech FAQ

This is the general FAQ about the method which answers some question regarding how the technology functions. For specific questions about using the SNOR Device refer to our Technical FAQ.

What does “weakened soft palate muscles” mean?

Weakened means that the muscles are too soft or too thin; thus, lacking a muscular strength making them likely to sag. Those muscles dribble under the stream of air from your breath and physically produce the vocal snoring sound.

Are there any prescription drugs that can make those muscles stronger without any training?

No, there are none. Even the known anabolic steroids make a muscle bigger only if you intensively train it.

How will I know if the muscles of my soft palate are getting a good workout?

This is exactly what SNOR Device accomplishes. When you making a sucking effort, you activate and load your soft palate muscles and create vacuum inside the tube, which is connected to the device. The device has a built in pressure sensor, which takes a reading and sends it to your smartphone. This way you are able to see how hard your soft palate muscles are tensing. The more you tense your soft palate muscles, the more vacuum you create inside the tube. Respectively, the graph on the screen of your smartphone rises higher. In the medical field, we call this method “biofeedback”.

What am I going to feel when my soft palate muscles start getting stronger?

Most likely, you will not feel any different. You will start seeing the result after you finalize 10-15 complete sessions with the device. The “complete” session impliesthat you are performing the exercise at your full ability and tensing your soft palate muscles as hard as you can.

Is it possible that the snoring comes back?

After you have completed your soft palate muscles training and the snoring has disappeared, your muscles will eventually start losing its strength and tightness. Keep in mind that it is a slow process. It could take months or a year before your soft palate muscles would weaken enough to produce snoring. That being said, you can complete another course of training exercises with SNOR Device and your soft palate muscle will restore it’s “anti-snoring” qualities.

How do I know that SNOR device is effective?

During the development, we have always used subjective feedback from our testers who suffered snoring. Over 70% of them were certain that SNOR had helped them within 1 month.SNOR Device is developed specifically for training the soft palate muscles, which produce the snoring sound. The Device offers a number of exercises, monitors the intensity of the training, and demonstrates how hard the muscles are performing in real time (biofeedback). With this combination of features, the SNOR technology makes the training procedure highly effective and it eliminates snoring after a short period.Below you can find several published studies, which demonstrate the effectiveness of the soft palate muscle training on snoring:

Technical faq and troubleshooting

This is the technical FAQ, which covers the questions that you may have when you are starting your training with SNOR Device. This FAQ is specific to physically using the device.

When I make a sucking effort through the tube, the red bar does not raise high enough.
Under what circumstance do I need to repeat the testing procedure (“TEST” button)
During the “BARS” exercise, the threshold level is too high and I am having trouble reaching it.
If I start sucking on the tube intensively, I start getting blood in my mouth
How do I know that SNOR device is effective?

When I make a sucking effort through the tube, the red bar does not raise high enough

This issue is happening because you are not making the sucking effort correctly. Firstly, you have to correctly position the tube inside your mouth. You have to hug the tube with your lips specifically at the marker and press it up against your hard palate with the back of your tongue. Secondly, you have to suck in the air through the tube without engaging your cheeks (as you normally do it when drinking liquids) and engage your soft palate instead. At the same time your lips should be somewhat tense in order to keep the tube in place. The cheeks should be relaxed.

Under what circumstance do I need to repeat the testing procedure (“TEST” button)

During first few training sessions fully engaging your soft palate muscles will be an unusual task for you; therefore, there may be some unsuccessful attempts and mistakes done during the testing procedure. If you feel that you have not completed the test with your full ability, or you feel that you have made some mistakes, you should repeat the "TEST". To repeat the test, press "REPEAT TEST" button located in the "TEST RESULTS" window. Sometimes, you may get tired after several unsuccessful testing runs. You may rough skip the testing for that particular session by pressing "EXIT WITHOUT SAVING" button.

During the “BARS” exercise, the threshold level is too high and I am having trouble reaching it

Do not get too concerned if performing the exercises seem too hard. The software tracks your activity during exercise and changes the threshold for the next attempt. Same goes for the "MOVIE" exercise. The software sets a new difficulty level every 20 seconds of the exercise, using your previous attempt at engaging the soft palate muscles as a reference.

If I start sucking on the tube intensively, I start getting blood in my mouth

Yes, that is a rare case but there is a possibility that this can happen. Due to the intensive activation of the soft palate muscles, negative pressure is created inside your mouth cavity (vacuum). Under those conditions, a small capillary vein in your gums may rupture, which will result in blood getting out. Do not worry, it is not dangerous and it is a temporary occurrence. The training process will strengthen your gums along the way. Keep in mind that if you think there is enough blood to be concerned or if the blood still comes out after 5-7 training sessions, seek the consultation with your dentist. You may have to treat your gums to get rid of any blood during training with SNOR.

How do I know that SNOR device is effective?

The primary outcome you can expect is the reduction or disappearance of snoring. Typically, you're not attuned to your own snoring, making it hard to objectively gauge its reduction. While seeking your partner's perspective is an option, it's still subjective. A more objective approach involves using apps like "SnoreLab: Record Your Snoring" or "Sleep Monitor: Sleep Tracker," which quantify snoring.
To accurately assess the results, consider jotting down observations before and after using the SNOR device. The "RESULTS" section of the SNOR app offers additional insights. Typically, the average pressure generated during the initial testing phase of the course falls within the 50-150 mbar (millibar) range. After completing the training course, this pressure range increases to 250-350 mbar. This change demonstrates that the muscles in the soft palate have strengthened sufficiently to halt snoring.

Technical info: device troubleshooting

Immediately after switching on, the application starts searching for the device via Bluetooth. If Bluetooth is not enabled on the smartphone, the app will ask you to do so.

A sign that the SNOR device is connected to a smartphone is the blinking of the indicator 1 time per second and the appearance of a message on the screen: "The gadget is connected".

If there is no connection, the message "Trying to connect to the gadget". Please wait ..." will appear repeatedly. If there is no connection for 10 or more seconds, you should check the connection of the batteries and / or their quality.

Snor Device and Application Manual

Snor Device and Application Manual

1. Purpose

The SNOR device and application are designed to eliminate snoring by restoring the volume and tone of the oropharyngeal muscles (the soft palate and the tongue).

2. Causes of Snoring: Physical Source of the Sound

Snoring occurs when the muscles of the soft palate and tongue relax during deep sleep. During this time, the tongue shifts backward, narrowing the lumen of the larynx through which inhaled and exhaled air passes. As a result, the speed of the airflow increases. The soft palate, located in the path of the inhaled air, begins to vibrate, emitting the characteristic sound of snoring.

3. Conditions Contributing to Snoring

The primary factor provoking snoring is age-related muscle weakening (sarcopenia), which includes the gradual weakening of the tongue and soft palate muscles. Weaker muscles relax faster during sleep and are more susceptible to intense vibration in the inhaled airflow. Additionally, weak tongue muscles can block air access to the larynx, causing sleep apnea. Snoring and apnea symptoms occur much more frequently in people over the age of 40 when age-related muscle weakness begins to manifest.

4. Solution to the Problem

The solution to snoring comes down to restoring the oral cavity muscles, whose weakness leads to snoring in the first place. Science knows only one way to restore muscles, their strength, volume, and tone: training.

Through years of practice and scientific research, the optimal conditions for effective training have been determined, meaning the conditions under which maximum results are achieved in minimal time and are maintained as long as possible after the training stops. Among other important factors, the main condition for effective muscle training is the force of contraction. The optimal approach is multiple muscle contractions with an effort of about 70% of the maximum. Observing this specific condition guarantees the fastest possible launch of the synthesis of contractile proteins (actin and myosin) in muscle cells, leading to restored muscle volume and strength. Practice also demonstrates that weak muscle tension during training is the most common mistake preventing success. That is why SNOR technology pays special attention to this. Special sensors installed in the SNOR device measure the strength of muscle tension during training. While performing exercises, the user can see on their phone screen exactly how strongly they are tensing their muscles, as well as the target they need to strive for. This technology, well-known in rehabilitation medicine, is called biofeedback. It is the most effective method of muscle restoration known to science.

5. How the Device and App Work (Brief Sequence of Actions)

Muscle training is divided into two stages. First, the soft palate muscles are trained, followed by the tongue muscles. This entire set of exercises is called a training session. A standard training course consists of 20 sessions.

5.1. Soft Palate Muscle Training: This is performed using a sucking effort where the target muscles are tensed with maximum force. A plastic tube is inserted into the device (Fig. 1A), and the other end is placed in the mouth (Fig. 1B). Your task is to perform a sucking action, 2 5 similar to drinking a cocktail through a straw. By performing this action repeatedly and with sufficient force, you train the soft palate muscles. The tension force is monitored by a built-in pressure sensor, which displays how strongly you are tensing the muscles.

5.2. Tongue Muscle Training: This is carried out using the "Mewing" exercise. To perform it, you press your tongue firmly upward against the hard palate. During this movement, the tongue muscles tense with maximum force. So the device can measure this tension, you must place the EMG sensor (Fig. 2A) in the sublingual area (under the tongue) (Fig. 2B). The EMG sensor wire must be connected to the device. The device, with the tube installed and the EMG sensor connected, is shown in Fig. 3.

6. Each tube should be used for exactly one session and then thrown away. Do not reuse them, as residual saliva creates a breeding ground for bacteria.

16.3. Resting Protocols: During rest periods, remove the tube from your mouth and swallow. This helps deeply relax the muscles, restores breathing, and clears accumulated saliva.

16.4. Timing: Tense and relax your muscles precisely according to the voice commands without delay. Lagging behind will reduce the training's effectiveness and distort your performance evaluations.
